my adventures
Over the last few years, I’ve done a mix of different hiking trips and challenges, including some long-distance walks.
I wanted to keep a log of everything I’ve achieved and I thought why not share it here so you can check out some of the things I’ve done and maybe try them for yourself.
Here you can read all about them, with some more detailed posts and guides on how to do your own adventures. You can also check out my plans for future trips and challenges.
Feel free to get in touch to ask any questions about my adventures either in the comments below or via Instagram @beckythetraveller
2021 was a slow start to the year but once we were allowed to go on overnight adventures again I was off!
214 Wainwrights
I started the year (in April) by decided I wanted to complete my first round of the Wainwrights. After initially saying I wasn’t bagging them in 2020 I hit my 100th and decided to get them all done!
I hiked my final 18 Wainwrights over 2 days with a wild camp as a solo challenge and ended on Grisedale Pike!
Cumbria Way
My winter 2020 Cumbria Way trip didn’t go ahead, but the summer Cumbria Way trip did! I wild camped the route over 5.5 days with two friends. You can read my full guide, how we split the walk into stages, where we wild camped and everything else!
Pennine Way
After completing the trail in 2019, I always had an urge to return and do it as a solo adventure. This July, I’m setting off on a 13-day trip to complete the hike from north to south (Kirk Yetholm to Edale).
My plan for the hike including loads more information here 🙂
Tour du Mont Blanc
I’m not 100% convinced this will go ahead but after postponing our trip in 2020, the plan is to hike the TMB trail in August. Watch the space as to whether it will go ahead!
Bob Graham Round
After hiking the Bob Graham Round in 5 days last September, I’d love to give it another go but this time go for 4-days.
Last time I added on some extra Wainwrights so with a day’s less food and a shorter route I reckon I can do it in 4 days. Plan in progress for maybe September again!
In 2020, I set myself a couple of mini-challenges at the beginning of the year, mainly to keep myself active throughout the year and not just when the weather was good! As well as a big challenge too!
Wild Camping Challenge
The first was wild camping related since I now had a lovely warm winter sleeping bag and winter Therm-a-Rest sleeping mat it meant I could camp all year round. Fancy winter camping – read tips on how to keep warm here.
I challenged myself to do a minimum of one wild camp each month – January, February and March I had wild camping trips in the Lake District and Peak District. But the next three months I ended up camping in my garden and a fake wild camp until I finally got back to the Peak District in July. I’ve done August, September and October so just two months to go!
Snowdonia Challenge
The big challenge for the year was due to happen in May but I’ll hopefully be doing that in 2021 instead now. Read about the full challenge on my post below.
Bob Graham Round
A hiking challenge that I’d looked at doing in preparation for my Snowdonia Challenge but even though that wasn’t doing ahead this year I thought I would give the Bob Graham Round a good. A detailed guide on my 5-day hike below.
Pennine Way (6 day hike)
And for one more challenge, I joined @adventurer.nic on her #WalkHome2020 hike from Edale to Horton-in-Ribblesdale retracing the steps from my 2019 hike. Full guide coming soon.
Yorkshire Three Peaks
My second time hiking the popular Yorkshire Three Peaks trail – a 24-mile challenge hiking the three highest peaks in the Yorkshire Dales. I hiked this in April with Richard Duckworth – a great training hike for my E2W Challenge
E2W Challenge
2019 was the year of my biggest adventure, the E2W Challenge which I’d been planning since November 2018!
In May, I set off with my friend Ian on a 57-day hike from the furthest easterly point to the furthest westerly point of Great Britain.
As part of my training, I also set to complete the Country Walking Magazine ‘Walk 1000 miles’ challenge, which I reached during the hike whilst on the Pennine Way
You can read about the E2W Challenge below and also a detailed guide on the West Highland Way which was part of the route.
Welsh 3000s
In August I was back to successfully complete the Welsh 3000s Round – hiking over the 15 highest summits in Snowdonia over three mountain range in under 24 hours. This year I successfully completed in 19 hours.
Atlas Mountains in Morocco
And to finish the year, I went hiking in the Atlas Mountains in Morocco. The plan was to hike the third highest summit M’Goun but due to heavy snow the trail was impossible to trek. We still did some great hikes whilst we were there – read about the trip and my winter packing guide here.
Welsh 3000s
In June, I attempted the Welsh 3000s for the first time – and it was insanely tough, so much so the attempt was unsuccessful. There were many small mistakes that combined made this one of the toughest challenges I’ve EVER done.
Jurassic Coast
A plan to hike 3 days of the Jurassic Coast with friends fell through last minute so I decided to change my plans.
I hiked the full 96-mile trail solo and wild camping on the way – my very first long-distance solo adventure!
National Park Challenge
After being made redundant I decided to set myself a challenge to visit all 15 National Parks in the UK on one epic road trip!
